Sirach 26:8 "There is great anger when a wife is drunken; she will not hide her shame."
I really don't have much to say about this! We do tend to do and say shameful things when we've had too much to drink. Alcohol can be a huge contributing factor to much of our sin. It's best to avoid it as much as possible, although that's hard to do when it is so ubiquitous in our society. I think sometimes it might be easier to avoid situations where alcohol will be flowing freely, rather than put ourselves in temptation's path. Finally, and obviously, this goes for drunken husbands as well (and Sirach does not limit his warnings to women, he calls out drunkenness in several places, including Sirach 31:30).
I think of all the things I shouldn’t have said after even consuming a moderate amount of alcohol! And, of course, also things I’ve said without a drop of it! Old Testament and New Testament writers have been warning us about the damage we can do with our tongue throughout the Bible. Great advice that I usually think about after I’ve said words I regret. Thanks for reiterating that alcohol has been an issue for thousands of years.
